36 hours a day ..

A couple of days back, over the dinner table, I was discussing with a colleague the possibility of having the day and night duration of 36 hrs instead of the usual - 24 hrs. That discussion started as we were listening to each other about the time we spent in office and the time left for us. We observed that we are there in office for at least 12 hrs (including the travel time - since we stay fairly close to our workplace) and sometimes even more.
But if the day-night duration becomes something close to 36 hrs we won’t mind working for 12 hrs or a little more at all. Still we would have roughly 10-11 hrs to sleep and whopping 13-14 hrs for ourselves - to do whatever we want and like... that may include watching several flicks on HBO back to back, going out with different groups of friends almost everyday, finishing our favorite novel in the same day.. no more weekend rates for the multiplex.. more time with family. The list is endless. In short, whatever things we usually keep for the weekend could be afforded easily during the weekdays...

But by the end of our fantastical discourse we realized that there is some very basic flaw in our assumption.. work culture will also adapt and probably make us slog for again half the day-night duration (18 hrs in this case) equating it to the current configuration.

mr.razz, i think u hail frm some college whr there was ample of free time on ur hands!
how else wud u presume dat a student's life isn't busy?...especially wid mindless assignments, journal work, term tests, project work n ofcourse a string of events taking place(organised by we, over-enthusiastic students ourselves, in order to evade the torturous lectures conducted by our harrowing profs wich yield nothing but attendance)...
so u see... all of this dusn't really leave us wid much time 4 ourselves ;-)

For a moment it was good to dream about that world of 36 hrs till a thought flashed my mind scaring me to core..... "What about those workalcoholics who love to slog in office and would appreciate 36 hrs concept for entirely different reason?" .... :-(
