36 hours a day ..

A couple of days back, over the dinner table, I was discussing with a colleague the possibility of having the day and night duration of 36 hrs instead of the usual - 24 hrs. That discussion started as we were listening to each other about the time we spent in office and the time left for us. We observed that we are there in office for at least 12 hrs (including the travel time - since we stay fairly close to our workplace) and sometimes even more.
But if the day-night duration becomes something close to 36 hrs we won’t mind working for 12 hrs or a little more at all. Still we would have roughly 10-11 hrs to sleep and whopping 13-14 hrs for ourselves - to do whatever we want and like... that may include watching several flicks on HBO back to back, going out with different groups of friends almost everyday, finishing our favorite novel in the same day.. no more weekend rates for the multiplex.. more time with family. The list is endless. In short, whatever things we usually keep for the weekend could be afforded easily during the weekdays...

But by the end of our fantastical discourse we realized that there is some very basic flaw in our assumption.. work culture will also adapt and probably make us slog for again half the day-night duration (18 hrs in this case) equating it to the current configuration.

Of the rain coat and the potholes !!

The rains seems to be here in Mumbai for ever this time..

It’s the end of September and every time I plan to get out of my flat I have to carry my bulky rain coat. This green colored coat is made of some good material and promises to save you from the incessant downpour.
But there are few disadvantages also.. first being, it gives me the look of some 'middle aged person' on bike... its big and bulky and covers my neck too. With the safety helmet on head it never allows the lovely ladies passing by to have a glimpse of the handsome guy behind the covers.
Secondly it covers my torso and lower half but while biking my legs are exposed to the trickling water and I end up half drenched by the time I reach my destination.

The potholes on the (Western Exp) highway (so called) will feel cheated if I don’t mention there contribution to my state of despair. It’s actually kind of a game one seems to be playing with the infrastructure development authorities while traveling. Tonight while coming to the office I was actually amazed to find chessboard like chuckholes adorning the road with so much of allegiance.
The sidewalk seemed to be the actual path while the pedestrians trudged almost anywhere...

Let’s see in how much time we give this city at least the road it deserves and the raincoat I.
